WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman
Nicole Peterson finished with a match-high 20 kills and helped IUP women's volleyball rally to win three straight sets as the Crimson Hawks picked up a five-set upset road win at West Chester Friday night.
It was Peterson's third 20-kill performance of the season as she hit .286 on the night with six errors on 49 total attacks.
IUP won the opening set 25-20 but dropped the second and third by scores of 25-18 and 25-10.
With West Chester (12-4, 0-3 PSAC) on the verge of victory in the fourth set with a lead of 23-19, the Crimson Hawks rattled off five straight points, including two kills and two service aces from Virgin. Later with the Crimson Hawks trailing 25-24, kills from Peterson and
Caroline Walsh and an ace by
Jasmine Raudys gave IUP a comeback 27-25 win and tied the match at 2-2.
IUP led the entire way in the fifth set and finished off the night with a 15-10 with a kill by Virgin.
Three other Crimson Hawks had double-figure point totals, including Raudys with 12.5, Virgin with 12.0 and
Jessica Ignace with 11.5. Ignace had 11 kills and Virgin had 10. Raudys had nine kills and three total blocks. Freshman setter
Leah Henderson had 37 assists.
It was the first win for the Crimson Hawks since September 13 as they improved to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
