JOHNSTOWN, Pa. –
Jessica Ignace had 12 kills and five block assists but IUP women's volleyball couldn't capitalize on early success and fell to Pitt-Johnstown in four sets on the road Tuesday night.
Ignace had her 12 kills on 31 total attacks to hit a team-best .248 on the night. She helped the Crimson Hawks win the opening set 25-23 but Pitt-Johnstown rebounded to win three in a row by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-22.
IUP overcame a 15-12 deficit in that first set to go on a 9-3 run and take a 21-18 lead. Then held off a late charge from UPJ for the two-point win.
The Crimson Hawks held leads in both the second (15-13) and third (14-9) sets but the Mountain Cats rallied in both to take a 2-1 lead in the match. UPJ then led the entire fourth to earn the win.
IUP dropped to 6-20 overall and 5-12 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Pitt-Johnstown improved to 15-12 and 7-10.
Ignace's five block assists helped IUP to eight total team blocks.
Kylie Osborn had six block assists,
Nicole Peterson had three and
Jasmine Raudys had two.
Gia Cannavino also went for double-digit kills, tallying a team-best 13. It was her third 10-plus kill performance in the last four matches.
