IUP Field Hockey falls to No. 3 Kutztown, misses out on trip to PSAC tournament

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – On the final day of the field hockey regular season the Crimson Hawks fell just short of a postseason berth as they lost 2-0 to third-ranked Kutztown on the road Saturday.

IUP ended its season with a 9-9 overall record and 4-6 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

The Crimson Hawks finished in a three-way tie with Millersville and Bloomsburg for the sixth and final spot in the conference tournament, but lost out on the weighted wins tiebreaker. Two of IUP's four league wins came in overtime periods while Millersville's all came in regulation.

Despite a scoreless first quarter, the Crimson Hawks seemed to establish an offensive advantage outshooting Kutztown (12-5, 7-3) 3-0 in the first 15 minutes. Shots came from Georgiana Chiavacci, Emma Wilhelm and Camen Weber.

After going into the half scoreless, the Golden Bears tallied their first goal less than four minutes into the third quarter. Kutztown outshot IUP 8-2 in the second half, adding an insurance goal in the 53rd minute.

Lexi Ciano finished the day with six saves in the cage, her second highest total of the season.
