Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Ryan Rebholz, Director of Sports Information

Foster and Miller each score 20, No. 6 Crimson Hawks outlast upset-minded Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Guards Armoni Foster and Malik Miller combined to score 42 points and the Crimson Hawks used a big run in the final minutes as sixth-ranked IUP men's basketball defeated Mansfield 76-63 Saturday afternoon.

Foster finished with a game-high 22 points and Miller went for a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds to help the Crimson Hawks remain undefeated at 7-0 on the year. The win was the third Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory for IUP.

After Mansfield (2-6, 1-2) erased an 11-point halftime deficit to tie the game at 61-61 with just over four minutes remaining, the Crimson Hawks answered.

IUP, which had gone scoreless for 2:19, responded with 10 straight points over the next two minutes to grab the momentum and take a 71-61 lead. Mansfield missed three shots during that span and the Crimson Hawks capitalized, including 3-pointers from Miller and sophomore guard Dave Morris.

Mansfield finally scored a bucket to stop the run but it came with 56 seconds left and the Crimson Hawks would put the game away with four free throws by Foster in the final minute.

The Mountaineers came into the game averaging just over 85 points but the IUP defense limited them to their lowest scoring output of the season.

Miller hit a season-high five 3-pointers as IUP totaled 10 on the afternoon. The Crimson Hawks also outrebounded Mansfield 39-to-34 despite 19 boards by the Mountaineers Trevor English.

IUP freshman Ethan Porterfield came off the bench to score 12 points and block two shots in 26 minutes. Morris and senior forward Chucky Humphries each scored seven points.

Up next
The Crimson Hawks return to action in a week when they host Bethany College in their final non-conference game of the season. That game is set for Sunday, December 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the Kovalchick Complex.
