PEMBROKE, N.C. — The Crimson Hawks fell to the UNC-Pembroke Braves 22-3 in the final game of their Opening Weekend at Sammy Cox Field.
Luke Hollander hit a single in the fourth inning, driving in
Anthony Rota to get IUP on the board after three scoreless frames.
Nick Hess added another run for the Crimson Hawks in the seventh inning with a home run down the left field line. Hess scored the third and final run for IUP in the ninth inning off a single by
Austin Vigliotti.
Hess and Hollander highlighted the IUP offense, each recording two hits and an RBI.
Tyler Adams made his first-career start today but ultimately suffered the loss after giving up four unearned runs over 3.0 innings.
The Braves started their offensive run by scoring four runs in the second inning, including two runs scored off IUP throwing errors. Elijah Helton increased the lead for UNCP with a grand slam in the fourth inning. The Braves scored six unanswered runs over the next two innings before going on a seven-run rally in the seventh inning.
IUP won the second game of yesterday's doubleheader 11-1, but it was the Braves who took the series 2-1.

The Crimson Hawks return to action Friday, Feb. 15, for their Weekend at Holly Springs. IUP will face three different opponents over the three days. They will face Le Moyne, Friday at 2 p.m.; St. Anslem, Saturday at 10 a.m.and East Stroudsburg, Sunday and 1 p.m. All games will be played in Holly Springs, N.C.
