INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's lacrosse team dominated for most of the day but succumbed to No. 17 Grand Valley State as the Lakers scored nine straight goals in the second half to rally for a 14-10 victory Sunday at George P. Miller Stadium.
The Crimson Hawks built a 10-5 lead and looked for an early season top 25 upset before giving way to Grand Valley State's comeback.
IUP scored six of the game's first seven goals to take control early.
Kathryn Zeiler scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to
Shannon Hartigan as the Crimson Hawks led 6-1 with 13:10 to play in the first half.
The Lakers (2-0) did manage two goals in the last 12 minutes but the Crimson Hawks answered each one with Zeiler and
Leah Hunter posted unassisted scores to help IUP lead 8-3 at the break.
Each team scored twice in the first six minutes of the second half with IUP still holding onto its 5-goal lead at 10-5. The Lakers' comeback started with just over 19 minutes left on the clock as they scored five times in 7:38 to tie the game at 10-10 with 11:30 to play.
The Lakers controlled the game for most of the second half with the Crimson Hawks unable to get a shot off in the final 17:48 of play.

The Crimson Hawks return to the field in two weeks when they head to the Carolina's for a pair of spring break games. They'll face Wingate Sunday, March 10 and No. 11 Limestone Tuesday, March 12.
