ASHEBORO, N.C. — IUP Baseball scored 10 runs in the seventh inning to secure their 16-2 win over Winston-Salem State in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at McCrary Park.
IUP now has an overall record of 3-4 after splitting the doubleheader. The Crimson Hawks fell to the Rams 2-1 in the first game.
The Crimson Hawks scored a total of 15 runs over the final two frames in game two, with five coming in the sixth inning. IUP was leading 2-0 with one out in the sixth when redshirt senior
Matt Swartz hit a grand slam to increase their lead to 6-0. The Rams added two runs in the bottom of sixth before the Crimson Hawks capped off the game with their 10-run rally in the seventh.
Senior right-handed pitcher
Jeff Allen (3-0) has earned the win in each of his three starts this season. He is the first IUP pitcher to earn the win in his first three consecutive starts of a season since Greg Stewart in 2011.
Allen allowed no runs on two hits while striking out eight batters and walking three, over 5.0 innings.
The Crimson Hawk offense was led by Sophomores
Colin Williams and
Nick Hess. Williams went 3-for-5 with five RBI and Hess also went 3-for-5 and scored two runs. Junior
Luke Hollander (1-for-3) and freshman
Nick DiAndreth (2-for-2) each scored three runs.
IUP scored their 16 runs off a season-high 15 hits with the pitching staff holding the Rams to just three runs on five hits.
In the first game, both teams were each held to four hits over the seven innings. Hess recorded two of IUP's four hits and Swartz scored the lone run for the Crimson Hawks. Senior right-handed pitcher
Colin Claus (0-2) struck out seven batters, over 5.1 innings.

The Crimson Hawks return to McCrary Park tomorrow for another doubleheader against Winston-Salem. First-pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two to follow.
