SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Crimson Hawks had five shots in the final 44 seconds but couldn't convert as IUP women's lacrosse dropped an 8-6 decision to Slippery Rock Wednesday afternoon at Mihalik Stadium.
Three of IUP's final five shots came on free position attempts, all in the final 27 seconds. The Crimson Hawks fell to 3-4 overall with the loss, including 1-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
Ally Burrows scored a game-high three goals, with her third score making it a 7-6 game with 10:21 to play. Slippery Rock's Emily Benham tallied the final goal with 8:10 to play to give SRU an 8-6 lead.
IUP didn't have another shot until 3:30 left on the clock before their late attempt to tie with under a minute to play. Shots by

Chelsea Johnston were saved before free position attempts by
Victoria Kerkovich,
Adriana Greco and Hartigan were stopped by SRU's Haley Barrett each missed the mark in the final seconds.
Slippery Rock (3-4, 2-2 PSAC) scored the first three goals of the game before the Crimson Hawks got on the board with a score by Burrows midway through the first half. After the teams traded goals,
Victoria Kerkovich made it a 5-3 game with a score just before the break.
IUP twice made it a 1-goal deficit in the second half with Burrows' at the 10:21 mark making it a 7-6 game.
For the first time all season, IUP played a goalie the entire game as
Carly Mansur gave up eight goals with a season-high 10 saves.
IUP won the draw control battle 9-7 with
Katie Martyn and
Mollie Gallagher each picking up three.
