MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – A goal by
Leah Hunter with 1:44 to play sent the game to overtime but Millersville ended it with a score 31 seconds into the extra period as the IUP women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-13 decision Saturday afternoon to the Marauders.
Hunter's goal was the fourth for the Crimson Hawks over a 1:41 span to cap a furious comeback at the end of the second half. Hunter scored two times off assists by
Ally Burrows during the run with
Adriana Greco and
Katie Martyn adding free position goals.
IUP had one last try for a win in regulation with
Shannon Hartigan picking up a draw control with 1:41 left on the clock. The Crimson Hawks ran the clock down to 30 seconds but a shot attempt by Burrows was saved and the game ended up going to overtime.
The Marauders (6-3, 4-1 PSAC) picked up the opening draw in OT and needed just one shot to get the win.
Eight different players scored for the Crimson Hawks, with Hunter, Burrows, Greco, Martyn and Hartigan each getting two goals.
The Marauders owned a plus-12 advantage in ground balls and forced IUP into 18 turnovers. Millersville also scored eight of its 14 goals on free position attempts with IUP finishing 5-of-9 on the day.
The Crimson Hawks took a 7-5 lead into halftime on the strength of a 4-0 run late in the first half. Millersville scored five goals in the first nine minutes of the second frame to take a three-goal lead and went on top 13-9 with 6:38 to play before IUP made its comeback.
The loss was the Crimson Hawks' third straight as they fall to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in PSAC play.

IUP is on the road again Tuesday with a game at Edinboro. The Fighting Scots recently picked up their first win of the year and are 1-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
