SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. –
Shannon Hartigan scored a career-high six goals and assisted on three others to help lead 25th-ranked IUP women's lacrosse to a 21-11 win at Shippensburg Saturday afternoon.
Hartigan's nine points were also a career-high as she stretched her multi-goal streak to five straight games.
It was the fourth straight win for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 7-5 overall and are now in a four-way tie for fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with a 5-3 league record.
The 21 goals were a season-high for the Crimson Hawks, who also posted a season-best .618 shot percentage (21-34).
IUP led for nearly the entire game, using two goals and an assist by Hartigan to take a 5-2 lead after 14 minutes of play. Shippensburg (4-8, 2-6) scored five of the next eight goals to cut its deficit to one, but the Crimson Hawks used scores by
Katie Martyn and
Leah Hunter in the final 2:26 to take a 10-7 lead after the first half of play.
Hartigan and
Ally Burrows opened the second half scoring with goals 10 seconds apart, and two more goals by Burrows minutes later gave IUP a 14-9 advantage.
With the Crimson Hawks leading by four with 20 minutes left, they ripped off five goals over nearly eight minutes to take a 19-10 lead and put the game out of reach for the Raiders. Five different players scored goals during the run, including Hartigan, Martyn,
Adriana Greco,
Chelsea Johnston and
Chloe Borland.
IUP scored six of its goals on free positions attempts, going a season-best 6-for-7 compared to just 2-for-7 from the Raiders.
