West Chester edges IUP Women’s Tennis, 4-3

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester's Rylee Power outlasted Katya Minchenkova in three sets to clinch the match as IUP women's tennis fell to the Golden Rams 4-3 Sunday afternoon.
 
After a 7-6 (9-7) win in the opening set by Minchenkova, Power rallied to take the second and third sets by scores of 7-6 (7-2) and 6-1.
 
With the loss the Crimson Hawks fell to 7-10 overall while West Chester improved to 10-5.
 
West Chester won four of the six singles matches, including one by default and one by forfeit. IUP took the second and third spots with Julia Newman and Thais Andreotti picking up the wins. Newman won 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 2 and Andreotti won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
 
The Crimson Hawks won the doubles point with a pair of victories. Newman and Mariana Valenzuela won at No. 2 and Laura Dunarova and Maria Magraner won at No. 3, both by identical 6-4 scores.
 
Up next
IUP has a pair of PSAC West matches on the schedule this week, starting with a Tuesday home date with Edinboro. The Crimson Hawks also play at Cal U Wednesday afternoon.
