ERIE, Pa. –
Chris Eisel drove in four runs in the final two innings as the Crimson Hawks rallied from a five-run deficit to defeat Gannon 9-7 as the two teams split a divisional doubleheader Monday in Erie. Gannon won the first game 13-4.
Eisel had four hits in the game two win and finished the day a combined 6-for-6 with a double, homer, five RBI and three runs scored.
The rally caps went on in the top of the sixth with IUP trailing Gannon 7-2.
Nick DiAndreth led off with a single and advanced to third when
Drew Weglarz followed with a double to the gap in right center. Two batters later, they both came around when Eisel drove a single up the middle.
Three batters later and with two down,
Nick Hess singled home Eisel for the final run of the inning to make it a 7-5 game.
Reliever
Nick Kuhn entered in the bottom half and retired Gannon 1-2-3.
Colin Williams led off the seventh with a walk and advanced to third on a single by DiAndreth and Gannon error. They both came home when Weglarz followed with a single to right to tie the game. Two batters later Eisel slammed his homer to left center field and gave the Crimson Hawks a 9-7 lead.
Gannon put a pair on to start the seventh with a walk and hit batter. Kuhn pitched out of the jam, getting a fly out and two straight ground outs to end the threat and give IUP the win.
The win was the third of the year for Kuhn, who improved to 3-3 after his 2-inning relief appearance.
The Crimson Hawks finished with 13 hits in the victory, with Eisel getting four, DiAndreth three and Weglarz two.
Ty Diehl had a solo homer in the second.
Eisel had two more hits in the opener along with
Matt Swartz, who also hit a solo homer.
Anthony Rota had a 2-run single.

The Crimson Hawks will not play until the weekend as their Tuesday non-conference doubleheader at West Liberty has been canceled due to the Hilltoppers needing to finish conference games. IUP's four-game series with Clarion starts with a home date Friday.
