INDIANA, Pa. –
Ally Burrows scored eight points to lead the 25th-ranked Crimson Hawks to a key conference victory as they defeated Bloomsburg 15-11 Saturday at Miller Stadium.
With the win, IUP pulled ahead of the Huskies in the conference standings heading into the final week of the regular season. The Crimson Hawks are now in a four-way tie for third and among the top six teams in the league standings. Six teams make the conference tournament.
The Crimson Hawks head into their final two games of the regular season at 9-5 overall and 7-3 in PSAC play. Bloomsburg fell to 10-5 and 6-4.
The six-game win streak is IUP's longest since winning six straight during the 2015 season. The longest win streak in program history was eight games and came in 2014.
Burrows scored four goals and assisted on four more, tying a season-high with her eight points.
Three of her goals came during the back-and-forth first half that saw six ties before the Crimson Hawks took a 7-6 lead at halftime.
But the key stretch came during the first 15 minutes of the second half. Bloomsburg scored first to tie the game at 7-7 but the Crimson Hawks responded with a timeout and four straight goals to take an 11-7 lead with 15:24 to play.
The Huskies answered with back-to-back goals and kept it close by making it a 13-11 game with just over four minutes left.
But Burrows helped the Crimson Hawks ice the game, finding
Victoria Kerkovich for a goal to give IUP a 14-11 lead with 2:23 to play.
Burrows was one of seven players to score for IUP, with Kerkovich and
Leah Hunter each scoring three goals.
The Crimson Hawks held the possession advantage, outdrawing Bloomsburg 17-11 while picking up 25 ground balls to the Huskies' 22.
Katie Martyn had 11 draw controls, bringing her season total to 113 which tied the IUP single season total she set last year.
