IUP Women’s Lacrosse clinches PSAC tournament berth with 14-13 overtime win at Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Ally Burrows scored the game-winning goal 1:17 into overtime to lift the Crimson Hawks to a 14-13 postseason clinching victory over Seton Hill Wednesday afternoon.

The win helped to break up a four-way tie in the standings and clinched IUP's seventh Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship berth.

IUP returns to the conference tournament after missing out in 2018. The Crimson Hawks earned six straight berths from 2012-17 with four appearances in the PSAC semifinals.

The six-team tournament field is now set with just the seeds yet to be determined heading into the final few days of the regular season. IUP is currently tied with Mercyhurst for third with 8-3 league records with Millersville and Seton Hill tied for fifth at 7-4.

The top two seeds in the conference earn first round byes with the third and fourth seeds drawing quarterfinal home games next week.

The game-winning goal was Burrows' third of the day and came after having an apparent score waved off because of a crease infraction with 30 seconds left in regulation.

That score would have given IUP a 14-12 lead but instead resulted in a turnover as Seton Hill had one last possession. The Griffins pushed the ball down the field and with 11.7 seconds left in regulation, Katelyn Cressman scored to tie the game at 13-13.

In overtime, Katie Martyn secured the opening draw and Burrows scored on IUP's first shot attempt.

The score wrapped up a game that saw three big momentum swings as IUP and Seton Hill both took turns at graining control.

The Crimson Hawks struck first taking a 6-2 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half. Seton Hill scored four times before halftime to go into the break trailing 7-6, then opened the second half with a 5-1 run to take an 11-8 lead.

IUP responded with five straight goals, with Chelsea Johnston putting the Crimson Hawks on top 13-11 with 8:11 to play. Seton Hill scored twice, including the game-tying goal with 11.7 seconds left, to send the game to OT.

Eight different players chipped in to score IUP's 14 goals, with Burrows and Shannon Hartigan each netting three. Martyn had six draw controls and Hartigan caused two turnovers. Goalie Carly Mansur had a season-high 18 saves as the Crimson Hawks weathered 43 Seton Hill shots.
