Crimson Hawks celebrate Senior Day before falling to No. 7 West Chester 18-9

INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's lacrosse team celebrated their eight seniors during pregame then raced out to a 3-0 lead over No. 7 West Chester, but couldn't keep the momentum as the Crimson Hawks fell 18-9 in the regular season finale Saturday at Miller Stadium.

Senior Ally Burrows scored three goals and assisted on three others in the loss. She was joined in pregame Senior Day festivities by Bri Chavis, Nicole Entenberg, Mollie Gallagher, Adriana Greco, Katie Martyn, Lauren Robinson and Betty Wesney.

The loss ends the Crimson Hawks' seven-game win streak as they wrap up the regular season with a 10-6 overall record, including an 8-4 mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Even with the loss, IUP clinched the fourth seed and quarterfinal home game in next week's PSAC tournament. The Crimson Hawks will host fifth seed Seton Hill Tuesday as they'll try to return to the PSAC semifinals for the first time since 2017.

Burrows was part of IUP's early scoring run, making it a 3-0 game with her 53rd goal of the year at the 24:54 mark. Kayte Zeiler and Victoria Kerkovich also scored in the game's first few minutes.

Zeiler also had three goals for the Crimson Hawks. Shannon Hartigan had two goals and two assists.

West Chester (15-2, 11-1), which clinched the regular season PSAC title with the win, answered IUP's early momentum with eight straight goals over 10 minutes to take an 8-3 lead.

Burrows and Hartigan added goals before the break as IUP trailed 8-5 at halftime.

Zeiler's second goal made it a 9-6 game early in the second, but the Golden Rams again scored eight straight goals to take control and finish out the win.

West Chester's physical defense forced the Crimson Hawks into 27 turnovers. WCU also finished with a 21-15 advantage in ground balls.
