ERIE, Pa. – IUP had a 7-run first inning while three pitchers combined to give up just three hits as the Crimson Hawks defeated eighth-ranked Mercyhurst 8-3 in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday. The Lakers took game one by a score of 10-3.
 
The Crimson Hawks are now 8-19 overall on the year and 2-10 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play.
 
The Crimson Hawks scored their seven runs on eight hits and got things started with a leadoff home run by 
Chris Eisel, his second of the day. Four straight singles followed, with 
Ben Teplin knocking in the second run. Anthony Vigliotti forced home another run when he drew a walk and 
Nick DiAndreth and 
Drew Weglarz brought runs home on RBI base hits. IUP's final run of the inning came across when Weglarz scored on a passed ball.
 
The Lakers (17-5, 9-3) scored twice in the bottom half on five straight walks and added their other run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly.
 
Tyler Adams started on the mound for the Crimson Hawks and went the first two innings, giving way to 
Mike Klingensmith who threw into the seventh. Klingensmith was credited with the win, giving up three hits and one earned run while striking out two. 
Nick Kuhn came in to throw the final two outs of the game, striking out one.
 
IUP's offensive production was balanced with eight players combining for 10 hits off Mercyhurst pitching. Cestra and Swartz each had two hits. Eight different players scored while five players drove in a run.
 
The Crimson Hawks outhit Mercyhurst in the doubleheader a combined 15-12. They went yard three times, with Eisel's two plus another off the bat of Cestra. Eisel's first home run and Cestra's long ball each came in the first game and accounted for all three of IUP's runs. The Lakers scored all 10 of their runs in the first four innings to grab momentum early en route to the win.
