Matt Cocorikis earns PSAC Spring Top 10 Award

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — IUP men's golf senior Matt Cocorikis was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Spring Top 10 Team, announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

Initiated in the 1997-98 academic year, the PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition. The Top 10 Award is selected by the conference's sports information directors and given to five males and five females in each athletic season: fall, winter and spring.

Cocorikis graduated in May with a degree in accounting and a 3.51 cumulative grade point average. He wrapped up his senior season as the No. 1-ranked player in the Atlantic Region, per Golfstat. Cocorikis led the region in scoring average (73.50) and average score vs. par (+1.86).

Cocorikis leaves IUP with a 75.39 career stroke average, the best by an IUP golfer since the 2013-14 season (Zack Kempa, 73.3) and the fifth lowest since 2007.
The PSAC Men's Golfer of the Year recorded four tournament wins, the most by an IUP golfer since former All-American and national champion Gavin Smith won five in 2009-10. Cocrikis won three straight tournaments in the spring, tying an IUP program record.

In addition to his four wins, he posted three more top-5 finishes on the year, including a third-place finish at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in the fall. He wrapped up his career with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Region Championships.

Along with being awarded the PSAC Men's Golfer of the Year, he also earned All-PSAC and PING Division II All-Atlantic Region Team honors. He was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team and a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar.
