INDIANA, Pa. – A powerful Shepherd offense was too much for the Crimson Hawks as IUP dropped a three-set decision to the visiting Rams Saturday afternoon at the Kovalchick Complex.
Shepherd, which improved to 14-0 on the year, hit .284 for the match with a pair of players putting up 14 kills apiece. The Rams won by scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-18.
Freshman
Brooke Little led the way for the Crimson Hawks with 10 kills and a .409 hitting percentage. As a team IUP tallied 28 kills and hit .116.
After the first set loss, the Crimson Hawks rallied and kept pace the Rams, taking several leads throughout the second set. With IUP on top 16-14, Shepherd responded with a 6-1 run to go up by three and held off a late rally for a 25-22 win.
The third set played out similarly as the Crimson Hawks took a 10-8 lead after a kill by freshman
Lizzie Virgin. Shepherd then reeled off an 8-2 run and held on to a comfortable lead the rest of the way to clinch the win.
Junior
Alyssa Kimmel had a match-high 16 digs to go along with two service aces. Senior
Jessica Ignace had three solo blocks and freshman
Caroline Walsh had two.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks will be back in action next weekend with a pair of road matches against two more PSAC Southeast opponents West Chester (12-3, 0-2) and Millersville (11-4, 1-1).
