SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore
Chloe Borland scored a goal with 1:10 left in overtime to give 25th-ranked IUP women's lacrosse to a 14-13 victory at Shippensburg Saturday afternoon.
It was the 2020 season opener for the Crimson Hawks, who overcame an early 3-0 deficit to take a two-goal lead at halftime.
Katie Hibinger scored her first career goal and IUP's first goal of the season at the 21:13 mark. Almost five minutes later while trailing 4-1, the Crimson Hawks rattled off three straight goals by
Leah Hunter,
Shannon Hartigan and
Kayte Zeiler to tie the game at 4-4.
Jordan Kulp scored with 2:30 to play in the half before Zeiler gave IUP a 6-4 lead on a free position goal with no time left in the first.
Shippensburg (1-1) twice came back to tie the score in the second half before retaking the lead at 11-9 with 11 minutes to play. The Hawks responded with four straight goals, with Kulp scoring twice in the span of 14 seconds.
The Raiders scored with 3:01 to play and then tied the game with 2:20 left to send it to overtime.
In overtime,
Chelsea Johnston was called for a foul on a shot when she and the Shippensburg goalie collided. But on the restart, the Raiders passed the ball before the whistle so the Hawks regained control. IUP drew a foul where Borland connected on the game-winner of the free position attempt.

IUP entered the game ranked No. 25 in the latest IWLCA Top 25 … Borland and Kulp each finished with a team-high four points; Borland had two goals and two assists, and Kulp had three goals and an assist … Zeiler joined Borland with a team-best three goals … Borland also had six draw controls … Shippensburg led in shots on goal 27-24.
