INDIANA, Pa. – For the second straight season the IUP men's golf team finished the year ranked first in the Atlantic Region as GolfStat released its final 2019-20 Division II rankings Thursday.
The Crimson Hawks saw their 2019-20 season come to a close due to the COVID-19 pandemic without seeing any action in the spring.
IUP won three of its five fall tournaments, including the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship at Hershey to end the season. The Hawks also won the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational and Davis & Elkins' Snowshoe Invitational in September.
Their PSAC title gave the Hawks an automatic berth in the 2020 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships, a record 24th straight appearance.
GolfStat Individual Rankings
Freshman
Shaun Fedor is the No. 2 player in GolfStat's Atlantic Region rankings, while senior
Jeremy Eckenrode is No. 4, sophomore Jackson Buccigross is No. 17 and freshman
Richie Kline is No. 29.
Fedor won individual medalist honors at the PSAC Championships and posted three other top-10 finishes in five tournaments in the fall. His best round was a 1-under 70 in the second round of the PSAC Championships and had four of IUP's 12 best rounds of the fall.
Fedor led the Crimson Hawks and ranked 11th in the Atlantic Region with an average score of 74.91.
Eckenrode finished second on the team and 15th in the region with a 75.27 scoring average. He posted four top-10 finishes in five events, including a second place finish at the Mercyhurst Fall Shootout and a fourth place finish at the PSAC championships.
Buccigross was third on the team and 26th in the region with a 76.18 average. He finished in the top-20 in all five of his events, including a sixth place finish at Clarion's Hal Hansen Invitational in September.
Kline was fourth on the team and 28th in the region with a 76.27 scoring average. He finished his fall with a sixth place finish at the Saint Rose Fall Shootout and a fifth place finish at the PSAC championships.
