CARY, N.C. –
Austin Mueller had two doubles and drove in three runs as IUP baseball defeated Frostburg State 13-9 Sunday afternoon at the National Training Center.
Mueller helped the Crimson Hawks to their first win of the season as eight of their 13 base hits went for extra bases. He finished the game 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. His RBI doubles came in the seventh and eighth innings as the Hawks combined for nine of their runs in the comeback win.
IUP scored two runs in the first to take an early lead, but Frostburg State (4-9) scored runs in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh to go on top 9-4.
Mueller's first double drove in two in the bottom of the seventh before helping the Hawks put up seven in the eighth to take a four-run lead to the ninth.
Francisco Manzano then put the final FSU batters down in order to secure the win.
Nick Hess and
Alex Thornberry each had two hits while Hess,
Harrison Pontoli and
Drew Weglarz all drove in two runs apiece.
