CARY, N.C. –
Nick Hess and
Colton Burd each hit home runs Monday to help the Crimson Hawks to an 8-5 victory over Franklin Pierce at the National Training Complex.
Burd's homer was a pinch-hit, 3-run blast with two outs in the seventh inning to give IUP an 8-3 lead.
This was IUP's second straight win in North Carolina as the bats have come alive with 21 hits and 20 runs in the last two days.
Down 2-0 after the first inning, the Hawks took the lead with three runs in the second highlighted by a two RBI single by
Harrison Pontoli.
They scored two more in the fifth inning on the homer by Hess.
Ian Logue picked up his first IUP win on the mound, giving up three earned on five hits in 5.0 innings.
Jayson Wilbur through just over three innings in relief before giving way to
Tyler Mulhollen, who picked up the save in the ninth.

IUP wraps up its trip to North Carolina Tuesday with an 11 a.m. matchup against Saint Thomas Aquinas.
