LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP sophomore swimmer
Paige Mikesell was named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Winter Top 10 Team, announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
Initiated in the 1997-98 academic year, the PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletic competition. The Top 10 Award is selected by the conference's sports information directors and given to five males and five females in each athletic season: fall, winter and spring.
Mikesell boasts a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a health & physical education major.
She put together a highly successful sophomore campaign for the Crimson Hawks, earning All-American honors in three events. She was a first team selection in the 100 and 200 yard butterfly and an honorable mention pick in the 200 yard freestyle.
Mikesell was named the women's Most Outstanding Swimmer at the 2020 PSAC Championships, winning three individual and one relay title. She broke two meet records and one school mark, and posted one NCAA A standard and four B standard times.
IUP and the PSAC Top 10 award
Mikesell becomes the 61st IUP student-athlete to earn PSAC Top 10 honors in the 23-year history of the award. The 61 total selections is third all-time behind Shippensburg (71) and Slippery Rock (67).
This is the fourth PSAC Top 10 honor for IUP women's swimming, the first since Jackie Hyson went back-to-back in 2011 and 2012. Petra Adamkova was another winner of the award in 2000.
