IUP Athletics names Reggie Overton head strength and conditioning coach

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP director of athletics Todd Garzarelli announced this afternoon that Reggie Overton will become the department's first head strength and conditioning coach.

"We are excited to introduce Reggie Overton in this new position and welcome him into the Crimson Hawk family," said Garzarelli.

"Having a strength and conditioning program has been a priority as we continue to improve upon our student-athlete experience. Reggie stood out during the interview process and I believe he has the right mix of energy, experience, and drive to successfully establish this new program."

Overton comes to IUP from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he spent the last year-and-a-half as an assistant strength and conditioning coach in the athletic department.

While with the Seahawks, Overton oversaw strength and conditioning programs for several programs, including women's basketball, softball, men's and women's track & field, men's and women's tennis, women's volleyball, and men's and women's swimming and diving.

"I would like to thank athletic director Todd Garzarelli for providing me the opportunity to serve in this role," said Overton. "It means a lot to me to be able to join an athletic department that has added a full-time strength and conditioning position as a result of its understanding of the value of the profession. I would also like to thank the members of the search committee for their thoughtful questions and sharing their passion for IUP."

Overton has over six years of experience in collegiate athletics, all at the Division I level. Prior to his work at UNC Wilmington, he was the assistant strength and conditioning coach for football at the University of Buffalo for the 2018 season. Overton was also the assistant for the University of Cincinnati football program and spent time at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, University of Kentucky, University of Montana and Robert Morris University.

A native of Western Pennsylvania, Overton is a 2007 graduate of Pine-Richland High School. He played football collegiately at Lehigh University in 2007 and 2008 before transferring to the University of Mount Union for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

"The athletic programs at IUP have a history of competitive excellence and I'm looking forward to contributing to the growth and future success of the department," said Overton. "As a native of Western Pennsylvania, I am excited to join the Crimson Hawk family and continue to do what I love just a short drive away from where I grew up!"

Overton is a 2012 graduate of Mount Union with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. He earned his master's in sport management from the University of Florida in May 2019.
