INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP women's volleyball team opened the week with a three-set loss to Clarion at the Kovalchick Complex Tuesday night.
The Crimson Hawks were outhit .380 - .120 on the evening with Clarion putting up 47 kills. The Golden Eagles won by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-20.
It was the second straight loss for IUP which fell to 11-11 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC West. Clarion improved to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in the division.
After dropping the opening set in a runaway, IUP bounced back to lead the second by a score of 10-8 before an 8-2 run by the Golden Eagles gave them a 4-point lead. Clarion later scored seven of the last nine points to take a 2-0 lead. Clarion grabbed an early lead in the third set but the Hawks fought back to go on top 12-10. IUP later led 15-13 but Clarion reeled off another 8-2 run and scored four of the final six.
Nicole Peterson had team-bests of eight kills and seven digs.
Caroline Walsh had four total blocks while
Kylie Osborn had three aces and a pair of solo blocks.
