2HIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Paige Mikesell broke two pool records and hit a NCAA B cut time to highlight the 2021-22 season opener for IUP swimming in a Wednesday road dual against Shippensburg.
Mikesell hit her NCAA B cut time in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in 1:52.71. It broke the 35-year old record of 1:54.94 set by Clarion's A'Lisa Woicicki in 1986. Mikesell was also part of IUP's 200 medley relay that broke the Heiges Field House pool record with a time of 1:48.63. She was joined by
Amber Baldani,
Rachel Johnson and
Iliana Oikonomou. They bettered the previous mark of 1:49.81 set by West Chester in 2009.
The IUP women defeated Shippensburg by a score of 151-54. The IUP men fell to the Raiders 118-86.
In addition to Mikesell in the 200 free, individual winners for the women included
Heather Hartmann in the 1000 free (10:45.44),
AB McCullough in the 50 free (24.38) and 100 free (53.77), Johnson in the 200 IM (2:11.59),
Amber Baldani in the 100 back (1:00.23),
Clara Gracia in the 500 free (5:31.04), and
Claire Mikesell in the 100 breast (1:06.12). The 200 free relay of Oikonomou, Johnson, Baldani and McCullough also won (1:39.28).
On the men's side,
Adam Morrison on the 200 free (1:48.27),
Thomas McGillan won the 50 free (21.66) and 100 free (48.82), and Kyle Thome won the 500 free (5:01.39).

The Crimson Hawks return to competition next Friday with a dual meet at Edinboro. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
