Hawks drop home match to Gannon

INDIANA, Pa - The IUP women's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision to division-leading Gannon on Wednesday afternoon at South Campus Field.

The loss came as the Crimson Hawks enter the stretch run of the regular season and continue to push toward a postseason spot. At the time of the loss, IUP still holds onto the fourth and final spot in the division at 19 points with a 6-4-1 record. IUP is 7-4-1 overall. Gannon moved from second to first in the division with 26 points and an 8-2-2 league record.

It didn't take long for the Lady Knights to get on the board, scoring in the fourth minute as they were able to sneak one past IUP goalie Samantha Gildner. It was the only goal in the first half of play as Gannon mostly controlled the ball but only held an 8-6 advantage in total shots.

The second half remained scoreless until the 79th minute when the Knights added their insurance goal. IUP's Hannah Scardina did get three good looks at the net in the second half, including two late, but both were stopped by the GU goalie. Scardina finished with five shots, three on goal.

Up next
The Crimson Hawks have five matches remaining over the next two-and-a-half weeks during this tight playoff race in the PSAC West. Their remaining schedule is made up of teams with a combined divisional record of 24-28-5 and includes three teams below them in the standings. Saturday's opponent, however, is Slippery Rock, which is second in the division with 25 points and has an 8-3-1 league record.
