JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Just 90 seconds after IUP tied the match at one-all, Pitt-Johnstown scored the deciding goal as the Crimson Hawks dropped a 2-1 decision Wednesday morning. The match was moved to Richland High School from UPJ's field due to poor conditions.
IUP is now 7-6-1 overall and with 19 points (6-1-1) remains two points behind fourth place Edinboro in the PSAC West standings. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 5-10-1 and 4-9-1.Â
Down 1-0 after an early goal, IUP's
Hannah Scardina knotted things at 1-1 on a penalty kick in the 77th minute. But in the 78th minute, Pitt-Johnstown regained the lead. Scardina's goal was her ninth of the season.
The Hawks had several chances in the final minutes send the match to extra minutes, but shots by
Alayna Ryan, Samantha Nemeth and Scardina all missed.Â
IUP outshot UPJ 18-14 and had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Samantha Gildner made six keeper saves in the net.Â
The loss kept the Hawks from moving up in the division standings as Edinboro dropped a 1-0 decision to Gannon today. Three matches remain for each team in their playoff push. The top four teams in each of the PSAC's two divisions advance to the conference tournament.Â
