Crimson Hawks emphatically shut down Mercyhurst win streak

INDIANA, Pa. - Nicole Peterson had 18 kills and 10 digs and the IUP defense totaled 11 blocks as the Crimson Hawks took down Mercyhurst in four sets Friday night at the Kovalchick Complex.

IUP's victory put an end to Mercyhurst's 6-match win streak. The Lakers hadn't lost since the Hawks defeated them in five sets back on October 2 in Erie.

The Hawks evened their overall record at 13-13 and improved to 4-7 in the PSAC West. Mercyhurst is now 10-12 and 6-5.

This was Peterson's third outing of the year of at least 18 kills and her eight double-double performance of the season. She added three block assists and an ace for 20.5 points. Brooke Little and Kylie Osborn each had 12.0 points while Caroline Walsh had 11.5. Little tallied 10 kills and four total blocks, Osborn had seven and five with two aces, and Walsh finished with eight kills and six total blocks.

Leah Henderson stuffed the stat sheet with 44 assists, 16 digs, five kills, three aces and two total blocks. Bailey Flowerdew had a team-high 17 digs and Stefania Anagnostou added 16.

The Hawks dominated the opening set, hitting .286 with three aces and a pair of blocks in a 25-13 statement win. They held off Mercyhurst in the second to take a two-set lead in the match with a 29-27 victory, and also won the fourth set 25-20. The Lakers stayed in the match with a 25-17 win in the third.
