Crimson Hawks upended by Edinboro on Senior Day

INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP football team saw its Senior Day ruined on Saturday as the Crimson Hawks lost to Edinboro 21-17 at George P. Miller Stadium.

The Fighting Scots used early big plays on special teams to steal momentum, keeping the Crimson Hawks out of the end zone in the first half en route to the upset win.

It was the second straight loss for the Crimson Hawks, who fall to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in the PSAC West. Edinboro entered the week with just one win and improved to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the division.

Edinboro blocked two first quarter IUP punts, returning one 17 yards for a touchdown to strike first. Freshman kicker Tyler Luther converted field goals from 31 and 34 yards in the second quarter as IUP trailed 7-6 at half.

IUP looked to take momentum early in the third as quarterback Harry Woodbery connected with receiver Daquon Green for a 23-yard touchdown to give the Hawks a 14-7 lead. Edinboro answered, tying the game on its next drive with a 22-yard touchdown toss of its own.

In the fourth, Luther connected from 27 yards out to give IUP a 17-14 lead. The Fighting Scots then used nearly seven minutes of clock to drive 88 yards in 15 plays, scoring on a 7-yard pass to take a 21-17 lead. IUP drove down the field looking for the go-ahead score, but couldn't convert on a 4th-and-7 from the Edinboro 25, turning it back over to the Fighting Scots with under a minute to play.
