INDIANA, Pa. - IUP women's volleyball dominated from the outset in front of its home fans as the Crimson Hawks took down Slippery Rock in three sets at the Kovalchick Complex Friday night.
IUP had a season-high .419 hitting percentage as three players had double-digit kills in the Hawks most impressive offensive performance of the season. It was IUP's second straight division win and fourth victory in its last five overall matches.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 11-9 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC West. Slippery Rock dropped to 4-14 and 1-4.
Gia Cannavino had a team-best 13 kills on 30 attacks, hitting .333 on the night.
Nicole Peterson led the team with 16.5 points, tallying 12 kills with a .524 hitting percentage, and four service aces.
Caroline Walsh finished with 10 kills on a .450 hitting percentage, and four total blocks.
IUP won by scores of 25-10, 26-24 and 25-13.
Leah Henderson, who dished out 32 assists from her setter position, had a big first set by serving six straight points with four service aces. After The Rock tied set two at 24-24, IUP rallied with a kill by Walsh and an ace of a
Lexi Hraga serve to take a 2-0 lead. The third set was again all-IUP, with Peterson serving five straight points that included two aces and three kills by Cannavino.
