MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The 2021 season ended for the IUP field hockey team as the Crimson Hawks lost to fifth-ranked Millersville 3-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
The Crimson Hawks were making the program's ninth all-time conference tournament appearance and first since 2016. They finish their season with an 11-6 overall record, the most wins in a season since the 2012 team with 14-6.
Millersville (15-3), the fourth-seed in the PSAC tournament, outshot the Hawks 19-2 on the night, including 8-2 on-goal. The Marauders also owned a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners, with their first goal of the night resulting from one of those corner chances.
The Marauders scored once each in the second, third and fourth quarters. The Hawks' chances at getting on the board each came at the start of the second quarter with shots by
Blaise Cugini and
Rory Cahill each saved. Neither of IUP's penalty corners resulted in a shot.
Millersville will now face PSAC top seed and Division II top-ranked Shippensburg in the semifinals on Friday afternoon.
