Crimson Hawks blanked by Mercyhurst in home finale

INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP women's soccer team dropped their home finale to Mercyhurst on Wednesday by a score of 2-0 at South Campus Field. The loss, coupled with Edinboro's 3-1 victory over Pitt-Johnstown, eliminates the Crimson Hawks from the possibility of postseason play.

With the loss the Hawks fall to 7-8-1 overall and 6-8-1 in the PSAC Western Division. Mercyhurst, which has already clinched the third divisional seed in the conference tournament, improved to 12-4-1 and 11-3-1.

Mercyhurst outshot the Hawks 15-4 on the afternoon, including 11-1 in shots-on-goal. Goalie Madison Galinac saw her first start in the net and posted nine saves, including five in the first half to keep the Lakers scoreless after 45 minutes.

Both Laker goals came off corner kicks just 90 seconds apart in the 50th and 52nd minutes of action. IUP's only shot-on-goal came from Hannah Scardina less than a minute after that second score,
