GREENSBURG, Pa. – Renee Wall hit a home run and scored two runs but the IUP softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at division-leading Seton Hill Saturday afternoon. The Griffins won by scores of 7-1 and 6-1.
The Crimson Hawks drop the series with Seton Hill as the Griffins took three of four. IUP now has 9-7 overall and division records while Seton Hill improved to 15-5 overall and 12-2 in the PSAC West.
Game one
Wall started the afternoon with a bang, getting a leadoff solo home run over the fence in left field.
Unfortunately, it was the only hit for the Crimson Hawks until the fifth inning as SHU scored four in the second and two more in the third to take a 6-1 lead. The Griffins added one more in the sixth as IUP starting pitcher
Hope Jones lost just her second game of the season.
Game two
Seton Hill got out early this time, scoring a pair in the first inning. The Hawks scored in the third, with Wall again getting things started with a one-out double. Two batters later she advanced to third on a single by
Kaitlyn Beers, and then came home on a bad throw by the catcher as Beers stole second.
The Griffins answered with two more runs in the bottom half, and then one each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks take a 9-day break and return to action Tuesday, April 6 with a non-divisional doubleheader at Shippensburg.
