SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Lydia Vlachou picked up a three-set win to clinch the match for IUP as the Crimson Hawks took down Slippery Rock 4-3 in a key divisional women's tennis contest Saturday afternoon.
Vlachou defeated The Rock's Gabi del Val del Toro 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 to give IUP its fourth and clinching point of the afternoon.
Vlachou's win came as IUP held a 3-2 lead and right before Slippery Rock scored a three-set win at the No. 1 singles spot.
The match was between the numbers two and three ranked teams in the latest ITA Atlantic Region rankings. It was also key towards the PSAC West title race as IUP improved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the division while SRU fell to 1-3 and 1-1.
Slippery Rock took the first and third doubles matchups to win that point to open the match.
Karolin Kirchtag and
Katy Graydon paired for a 7-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
IUP followed with the first two points in singles play, as
Abby Jones won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 and

With the match tied at 2-2, Graydon picked up a big win at the third spot, defeating former PSAC singles champion Lacey Cohen by a score of 6-2, 6-2. It was Graydon's team-best third straight singles win this spring.
