EDINBORO, Pa. - The IUP women's tennis program clinched its second ever Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division regular season title after a 6-1 victory at Edinboro Wednesday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks finish their division schedule with an unblemished 6-0 record and improved to 9-3 overall.
IUP had already clinched the No. 1 divisional seed and a first round bye in the upcoming PSAC tournament.
The Crimson Hawks swept doubles play, giving up just three games to earn the opening point of the match.
Laura Dunarova and
Abby Jones started with a 6-0 win at the third spot with
Karolin Kirchtag and
Katy Graydon following with another 6-0 win at two.
Idoia Huerta and
Lydia Vlachou won their match 6-3 at the top spot.
The wins by Huerta/Vlachou and Kirchtag/Graydon gave each pairing eight straight wins.
In singles play, Dunarova took the first win by a score of 6-0, 6-1 at the fifth spot. Vlachou followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at four and Huerta won 6-3, 6-1 at two. Graydon won her 11th straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-2, victory at three, and Jones wrapped things up with a 6-2, 6-1 win at six.
