Wall's walk-off highlights IUP's Senior Day sweep of Edinboro

INDIANA, Pa. - Senior Renee Wall hit a 2-run walk-off home run to propel the IUP softball team to a 3-2 game two victory, highlighting the Crimson Hawks' doubleheader sweep of Edinboro Saturday at Podbielski Field. 

The homer capped a celebratory Senior Day for IUP, which picked up a 9-7 victory in game one. 

Winners of four straight, the Crimson Hawks are now 15-9 overall and 14-8 in PSAC West play. Edinboro falls to 8-12 (8-12). 

Standout performances
Soph. Haleigh Zimmerman: 2-3, two runs, home run, four RBI in game one
Sr. Renee Wall: 2-4, run, walk-off home run, two RBI in game two
Sr. Kaitlyn Beers: 2-6, two runs, double, triple
Fr. Amanda Fisher: 2-5, two runs, double, home run, RBI
Jr. Jenna Rhue: 4-4, run, triple

Game one
Both teams went back and forth, scoring in a combined six of the seven innings. IUP had RBI's by Zimmerman and Ashley Renzi to take a 3-1 lead after one.

Edinboro went back on top 4-3 in the next inning but the Crimson Hawks scored two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to jump on top 8-4. Zimmerman added to her big outing with a two-run homer to right center to start the fourth inning scoring.

Amanda Fischer added a solo blast in the sixth before Edinboro made things interesting in the seventh, hitting a three-run homer to cut its deficit to 9-7. Fischer was able to get out fo the jam and finish off the win.

Game two
After celebrating Senior Day between games, IUP fell behind in the fourth inning as the Fighting Scots hit a two-run homer. The Crimson Hawks grabbed one back in the bottom half with an RBI single by Sara Russell to make it 2-1. 

After two more scoreless innings, Fischer led off the seventh with a pinch hit double. Two batters later, Wall capped off Senior Day with a two-run home run over the fence in left.

These two teams wrap up their four-game series Sunday with a doubleheader at Edinboro.
