Crimson Hawks lose two in Erie

ERIE, Pa. - The IUP baseball team wrapped up its weekend series against Mercyhurst with two road losses. The Lakers won by scores of 10-3 and 6-1. 

Mercyhurst swept the four-game series as the Crimson Hawks dropped to 2-22 overall and 1-15 in the PSAC West. The Lakers are 19-9 overall and 10-6 in the division.

Key performances
Jr. Markus Cestra: 2-3, double, RBI in game one
Sr. Austin Mueller: 2-3, RBI in game one

Game one
Austin Mueller got the scoring started with an RBI single through the left side, scoring Harrison Pontoli to give IUP a 1-0 lead in the first. The Lakers jumped on top in the second with five runs, then three more on a home run in the third to go up 9-1. 

IUP brought two runs across the board in the fourth and fifth innings, first with a Markus Cestra double and a Ty Diehl sac fly. Mercyhurst added one more in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer, its second of the game.

Game two
With Mercyhurst leading 3-0 in the second, the Crimson Hawks put one on the board when Colin Williams stole third and advanced home an an errant throw. It was the only run of the ballgame for IUP as the Lakers brough three more across the plate in the fifth for a five-run win.

Up next
The Crimson Hawks have a four-game series against Gannon next weekend.
