INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP men's golf program finished the 2021 season ranked third in the Atlantic Region as GolfStat released its final Division II rankings Monday.
The Crimson Hawks finished six events during the spring, posting four top-3 finishes highlighted by the program's 30th all-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship in Hershey. IUP finished second at West Chester's Dr. Edwin Cottrell Invitational, tied for second at Cal U's Crofton Invitational, and came in third at Mount Olive's The Trojan.
IUP ended its year tied for sixth, five strokes off the cut, at the Division II Atlantic/East Region Championship at Lake View CC in May.
The Crimson Hawks were making their record 24th straight appearance in the NCAA regional tournament, a streak that dates back to 1997 and doesn't count 2020, which was lost due to the pandemic.
Gannon finished the year ranked No. 1 in the region while Davis & Elkins was No. 2. Livingstone trailed IUP at No. 4 and Fayetteville State rounded out the top five.
GolfStat individual rankings
In addition to the team rankings, four Crimson Hawks were ranked among the top-25 in the region by GolfStat.
For the second straight year, sophomore
Shaun Fedor was IUP's top-ranked golfer, checking in at No. 10 in the Atlantic rankings. Fedor posted a pair of top-5 finishes and tied for 15th at the Atlantic/East Region Championship. His official 76.00 scoring average ranked seventh in the region.
Junior
Jack Buccigross finished the year as the 14th-ranked player in the region, his highest career finish. He had three top-10 finishes, coming in third at the Cottrell Invitational. His 76.40 average was the 11th-best in the Atlantic.
Junior
Nicholas Ward was ranked 16th in the region with his 76.50 average score ranked 12th. He had two fourth place finishes, posting a team-best 7-over 149 at the PSAC Championship.
Graduate
Jeremy Eckenrode finished as the 24th-ranked player in the region, while his 77.46 scoring average was ranked 21st. Eckenrode's top finish came at the PSAC Championship, tying for fifth.
