Former IUP Football linebacker Damon Lloyd signs with Los Angeles Chargers

INDIANA, Pa. - Former IUP football All-American linebacker Damon Lloyd has signed a free agent contract with National Football League's Los Angeles Chargers, the pro club announced Friday afternoon via Twitter.

Lloyd also made the announcement on his personal Twitter account, accompanied by a photo of him at the Chargers' facilities.

Lloyd was a three-year starter at linebacker for the Crimson Hawks, helping the program to three NCAA playoff appearances, a national semifinal appearance, and a conference title. Lloyd earned All-American honors in both 2017 and 2019, while also being named a Cliff Harris Award finalist and the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year as a senior after posting 122 tackles.

Lloyd has been playing for the Blues of The Spring League after being drafted by the team earlier this year. The Spring League is a professional developmental league with eight teams split among two divisions in two cities - Indianapolis and Houston.

Lloyd was one of four signees for the Chargers on Friday, joining defensive lineman Willie Yarbary, tight end Michael Seybert, and receiver Michael Bandy.
