No. 6 IUP field hockey upended at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Sixth-ranked IUP field hockey dropped a 2-0 decision on the road against Bloomsburg on Saturday.

IUP (6-4, 1-2) held a 13-8 edge in shots on the day but could not find the back of the net against Bloomsburg (7-5, 2-2) goalkeeper Abby Shaffer.

Shaffer posted eight saves on the day for the Huskies. Meghan Longenhagen opened the scoring with a rebound chance in the first quarter before Aydan McFarland finished off a Longenhagen pass in the fourth quarter for the 2-0 final.

For IUP, Jess Davidson and Roos van Herel logged three shots each. The Crimson Hawks held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners.

The Huskies struck first just over 11 minutes into the first quarter as IUP struggled to get much going on the offensive end. Off a penalty corner, Paeton Hartmann had a chance blocked before Jess Davidson ripped one wide.

Amanda Zaner made two stops in the second quarter on consecutive chances from Bella Culp. IUP continued pouring in chances with van Herel and Shelby Harnish finding the pads of Shaffer in the 36th minute of the contest.

Bri Doebler shuffled an IUP chance away for a defensive save late in the third quarter after Rory Cahill slotted one past Shaffer. The Huskies maintained the 1-0 lead into the fourth quarter before adding an insurance marker at the 57:05 mark.

Mia Hutchinson added two chances for IUP in a well-balanced attack.
