INDIANA, Pa. – The 10th-ranked IUP field hockey program surrendered an early goal and could not break through in a 1-0 loss to third-ranked East Stroudsburg on Saturday morning at Miller Stadium.
IUP (9-8, 3-6) struggled to put together meaningful possession against an organized East Stroudsburg (15-2, 7-2) side. The Warriors found the back of the net just under five minutes into the contest with Olivia Breen finishing off a penalty corner feed from Grace Lesh, marking the lone tally of the day.
Prior to the contest, IUP recognized seniors
Blaise Cugini,
Julia Davis, Paeton Hartman,
Emily Opshinsky,
Amanda Zaner and graduate student
Mashayla Valentine in a pregame ceremony. IUP will finish just on the outside looking in for the conference tournament, settling just one spot from making the postseason.
The Crimson Hawks mustered just one shot on the afternoon as Zaner came up with three timely saves.
Claire Murphy sent the lone IUP shot attempt of the contest wide of the cage as the Warriors played stout on the defensive end.
Zaner stopped a Madison Kline attempt about 20 minutes into the contest, racing off to cut off the angle and keep IUP in the contest. Zaner added another stop early in the fourth, but IUP could not capitalize on any of its penalty corner chances.
The Warriors held a 9-4 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners. Amy Supey collected the shutout in goal, insulated by the Warrior defense.
