INDIANA, Pa. – With both alumni and clinic participants in attendance, the IUP swimming & diving programs posted wins across the board in a tri-meet clash with Washington & Jefferson and Chatham in the Ralph Johnson Invitational on Saturday morning at Pidgeon Natatorium.
In the women's matchup, the Crimson Hawks earned a 133-51 win against Chatham and a 157-35 triumph against Washington & Jefferson to remain unbeaten. The men's team kept their record unblemished as well with a 159-20 win against Chatham and a 160-39 victory against Washington & Jefferson.
With standout performances across the lineup, IUP posted 16 PSAC standards with eight for each team.
Nicholas Roddy set an NCAA B Standard with his score of 455.95 in the 1 meter 11 dive.
IUP won 23 of 24 total events, continuing to improve and showcasing the depth on both teams that has become a mainstay so far this season.
"Our graduating student-athletes did a great job leading the way to an energetic and exciting swim meet against some up and coming local programs," IUP head coach
Chris Villa said.
Paige Mikesell was part of two relay wins and an individual victory in the 100 free (53.61).
Amber Baldani added a similarly impressive effort, joining Mikesell for a win the 200-medley relay before zipping to victories in the 50 free (25.13) and 100 back (1:00.19).
Luke Mikesell nabbed three wins on the men's side with two individual victories in the 200 free (1:44.8) and 100 fly (52.44).
Thomas McGillan helped IUP to a pair of relay victories, also touching the wall first in the 50 free (21.54).
Michelle Lopes won the 200 free with
Rachel Johnson placing first in the 200 IM (2:09.82).
Alexander Roth posted a 54.14 in the 100 back as IUP rolled up first-place finishes throughout the day.
IUP dedicated its prospect clinic to Ralph Johnson, for whom today's invitational was named after. Johnson served as a coach, educator, author and more as an IUP faculty member from 1992-97.
