WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The IUP softball team split a pair of games on its first day in Florida, defeating Wayne State (Neb.) 9-8 before falling to West Virginia Wesleyan 4-3.
The Crimson Hawks homered twice in game one, including a 3-run blast by
Jenna Rhue in the first inning.
Renee Wall also went yard in the seventh, breaking up a 7-7 tie before
Joelle Snyder had an infield RBI single to put the Hawks on top by two runs before winning 9-8.
In game two, the Hawks fell behind in the fourth when West Virginia Wesleyan plated four runs on three hits and three errors. IUP came back with two runs in the fifth then made it a 4-3 game in the seventh when
Joelle Snyder doubled to center to bring home
Sara Tailford, who had also doubled. The rally ended with back-to-back outs.
The split gives the Hawks a 4-4 record on the year.
