Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The IUP softball team split its Sunday games, defeating Purdue Northwest 6-4 before falling to Caldwell by the same score.
It was the second full day of games for the Crimson Hawks in Florida after missing out on Saturday action due to wet weather.
Game one
The Crimson Hawks had to rally after Purdue Northwest put up four runs in the first three innings of starter
Amanda Fischer.
IUP started its comeback in the fourth with a solo homer by
Jenna Rhue, but had a big output in the seventh. Back-to-back errors gave way to a single by Fischer followed by a triple to right center from
Sara Tailford as she cleared the bases. She then came around on the same play to make it 5-4 after a throwing error by the second baseman.
Paige Truax followed with another run-scoring triple as the Hawks took a 6-4 lead.
With two runners on and one out in the seventh, Fischer forced a double play to wrap up the comeback win for the Hawks.
Game two
The Hawks were forced to come back again in game two, as Caldwell held a 3-0 lead in the fourth. IUP took advantage of an error in the bottom half to get on the board but Caldwell came back with two more in the fifth to go on top 5-1.
Anastasia Pappas drove in a run in the sixth, with Tailford and
Joelle Snyder later bringing runners around to cut IUP's deficit to 6-4. The rally ended the following inning as IUP went down 1-2-3.
