INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP baseball team scored late runs but dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Walsh but identical 3-2 scores Wednesday afternoon.
The losses dropped the Hawks to 10-9 on the season while Walsh climbed to 9-8.
In game one, the Hawks trailed 3-0 in the sixth when they put together a two-out rally.
Torrey Roper opened with a single to center followed by a base hit by
Peyton Johnson.
Davin Landers then brought home Roper with another single before
Brady Yard knocked Johnson in to make it 3-2. Landers also tried to score on the play but the tying run was thrown out at the plate.
Ian Logue went 4.0 innings in the start, giving up three earned runs on seven hits.
Ryan Berry tossed two hitless innings in relief.
In game two, Walsh led 1-0 with a run in the second but
Markus Cestra tied things up in the fourth with a one-out solo home run over the fence in left. The Cavaliers then added two runs in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Johnson led off with a solo blast to left to cut Walsh's lead to 3-2. Two batters later Yard got on base with a single but a strike out and a fly out ended IUP's threat.
IUP pitchers gave up just three hits and had seven strikeouts, but walked six batters in game two.
