INDIANA, Pa. - Jenna Rhue hit two home runs to run her season total to 10 and lead the IUP softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Edinboro Sunday afternoon at Podbielski Field.
Rhue blasted a home run in each end of the twinbill with the Crimson Hawks posting wins of 7-3 and 4-3.
The victories ran IUP's win streak to six in a row as the Hawks improved to 13-9 overall and a division-leading 6-0 in league play.
Game one
Edinboro scored twice in the first inning but the Hawks equaled that with runs in the first and second, with
Joelle Snyder stealing home before knocking in an RBI single an inning later.
After a Fighting Scots' home run,
Haleigh Zimmerman followed suit with a solo shot to lead off the third to tie the game at 3-3. IUP followed with two more runs in the frame, including an RBI single by
Paige Truax. Rhue smashed an opposite field, 2-run shot in the sixth for a couple of insurance runs as IUP won 7-3.
Bella Bucy tossed a one-hitter in a rare complete game relief outing, entering with no outs after four batters in the first inning. She went 7.0 innings, gave up just that one hit, one earned run, and fanned seven to earn the victory.
Game two
The Hawks got out in front in the first inning on a pair of runs with the help of an RBI double to right center by Zimmerman. Edinboro grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning with four hits but IUP went back on top with another 2-run homer by Rhue.
Reliever
Elizabeth Kasper, who entered in the third for starter Bucy, tossed the final 4.1 innings to get the win, striking out three while allowing just two hits.
