ERIE, Pa. - The IUP softball team dropped a pair of late inning, one-run games to Gannon on Friday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium. The Crimson Hawks lost by scores of 2-1 and 5-4.
The losses dropped the Hawks to 13-11 overall and 6-2 in the division standings.
Game one
Both games were decided in the final inning, including a game one comeback falling short.
The game was scoreless through the first five innings as reigning PSAC West Pitcher of the Week
Bella Bucy gave up just two hits. The Lady Knights got on the board in the sixth with consecutive hits of a single, double and single to score a pair of runs and take a 2-0 lead.
With two down in the seventh,
Renee Wall hit a pinch hit home run to left to cut IUP's deficit in half.
Jacey Henderson followed with a pinch hit single and
Sara Tailford dropped an infield single to the catcher to put two on. But that's as close as the Hawks would come as a ground out ended the threat.
Game two
The Hawks grabbed an early lead with three runs in the first inning, including a lead-off homer by
Joelle Snyder.
Haleigh Zimmerman later scored on an error and
Jordan Sylvia brought
Jenna Rhue in on a sac fly.
Gannon came back to tie the score at 3-3 with runs in the fourth and fifth.
Wall came through again in the sixth, doubling to left center after a lead-off single by Rhue to put the Hawks in front 4-3. Gannon led off the seventh with a single and with two outs smashed a walk-off home run to center field.
Up next
The Hawks get away from divisional play Saturday with a trip to Shippensburg.
