Second half comeback falls short for Hawks

INDIANA, Pa. - A second half rally was too little and too late for the IUP women's lacrosse team as the Crimson Hawks lost to visiting Slippery Rock 14-9 Tuesday afternoon at Miller Stadium.

The loss snapped the 6-game win streak for the Hawks. It was also the first home loss and first divisional loss for IUP, which fell to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC West. Slippery Rock improved to 7-4 and 3-3.

Who stood out
Jordan Kulp: 3 goals, 3 assists, 5 ground balls
Chantal Jimenez: 2 goals, 7 draw controls, 4 ground balls, two caused turnovers
Sarah Reustle: 4 draw controls, 4 caused turnovers, 2 ground balls

How it happened
Slippery Rock had all the control early, scoring the game's first 10 goals to make it a running clock at the 8:51 mark of the second quarter. The Hawks scored once in the quarter to take a 10-1 deficit to halftime.

IUP came out and scored the first three goals of the second half as Maggie Kilgallon, Katie Hibinger and Brenna Whiteside found the back of the net. After an SRU goal, the Hawks scored three more times in the final five minutes of the quarter, including a pair from Chantal Jimenez, to go into the fourth trailing 11-7.

IUP was unable to keep that momentum going in the final 15 minutes with Slippery Rock scoring three times in the quarter to come away with the win.

Up next
The Hawks have another home game on tap as they host Seton Hill Sunday at noon.
