INDIANA, Pa.- The IUP Women's volleyball team traveled to Athens, WV this weekend to partake in a four-match tournament hosted by Concord University.
In Athens, IUP faced the Concord Mountain Lions, Salem Tigers, West Georgia Wolves, and Bluefield State Big Blue. The hawks walked away with a weekend record of 3-1, taking the wins in stride while battling in five sets for their only loss on the weekend against West Georgia.
Here is what head coach
Lorelle Hoyer had to say about the teams efforts; "This weekend was really important in our journey. We had an opportunity to test our depth and I am happy with how sone of our bench stepped up and took advantage of their opportunities. We knew we weren't going to go undefeated this year. UWG took advantage of our lack of consistency and highlighted areas we need to improve on. Overall this trip was really beneficial for our team. We have a fast turnaround with a match at Shepherd on Tuesday, which will be another great test for us".
Taking a glance at this weekends totals, there were many players that stuffed their stat sheets.
Leah Henderson averaged a hitting percentage of .563, rang in 136 assists, set up 10 aces, and contributed defensively with 28 digs.
Caroline Walsh went off on the offensive level this weekend, bringing down 36 kills with a hitting percentage of .429.
Lauren Valentic showed off on offense with 31 kills and proved herself efficient on defense with 7 blocks.
Brooke Little also showed her talents on both sides of the story, laying down 36 kills and tackling 18 digs.
